This wine has a straw yellow colour with hints of green and expresses intriguing notes of cedar, tropical fruits and a harmonious and velvety palate. The bouquet is full of citrus fruits like grapefruit as well as delicate orange flowers. The exotic fruits balance out the lively acids, giving a nice structure and finish to the wine. It is the ideal accompaniment to seafood, white meats or grilled vegetables. Serve at 10-12°C.
Grillo is well suited to the hot, dry Sicilian climate. Its high levels of sugar and the ease with which it oxidizes make it a good option for fortification, therefore it is frequently used as a base wine for Marsala. There is even some evidence to suggest that this was the variety in the Roman wine Mamertino, a particular favorite of Julius Caesar. Grillo is a viable contender for the quintessential Italian table white: light, easy-drinking and offering a very good value for the money.
Contains sulphites.
