Grissini is very popular in many restaurants, but also in the homes. This delicious, crunchy breadstick is usually eaten as an appetizer by itself or with Parma ham.

 

Making the breadstick began by rolling the dough, which was made only with flour, water and salt, onto a pencil-shaped stick and baking it until crispy. Many believe that the first appearance of it was around the 14th century, in the city of Turin and the surrounding countryside. Grissino Torinese or Torino style breadsticks have become very popular. We hear different stories, but most likely the idea came from a chef when he was trying to experiment with leftover bread dough.

Today, there are all kinds of versions of this simple breadstick, from really hard, crunchy ones to almost bread-soft ones. It can be spicy, twisted and can even be dipped in chocolate.
